What this site is
My First Krypto provides general educational information about cryptocurrency: how it works, how to buy and store it, how to avoid common scams, and the general shape of the tax landscape in the United States. It is written for beginners and aims to be accurate, clear, and honest about uncertainty.
What this site is not
The core risks, stated plainly
- Volatility. Cryptocurrency prices can fall — sometimes sharply and quickly. A large percentage decline is a normal part of the history of these assets, not an exception. Only invest money you can afford to lose entirely.
- Irreversibility. Most blockchain transactions cannot be undone. A mistake, a wrong address, or a scam can permanently lose your funds, with no support line to call and no chargeback.
- Custody risk. While your coins sit on an exchange, the exchange holds them. Exchange protections are not deposit insurance. If you hold in self-custody, the security burden is entirely yours — a lost recovery phrase means lost coins.
- Scams and fraud. The space is targeted by predictable scams. No one can guarantee a return, and anyone who asks for your recovery phrase is a scammer.
- Regulatory and legal uncertainty. The rules differ by country and change over time. What is legal or taxable in one place may differ in another.
